Paying It Forward

We all know what the term "paying it forward" means - there is even a movie of same title. I heard the term twice this week by two different people - so that started me thinking. I try to do what is right, I try to help people when I see the need, I want to be a "good" Christian, but do I "pay it forward" in the real sense of the term? I have been trying to think of ways that I can make an honest effort to do so. I was reading a blog where the person felt led to pay another persons food items in the drive thru and thought what a wonderful idea. I love that! I think that would be a wonderful pay it forward "habit" to get in to.
Another idea that I have already put into motion - I printed about 50 biblical verses "book mark style" and planned to leave in various places. Maybe that isn't really a "pay it forward" kind of idea - but  hopefully it could lift someones spirit that is in need of a kind word. I thought I could expound on that idea by adding the phrase PAY IT FORWARD to some of the cards and when I do a random act of kindness - leave the card as well. If I pay for someones meal - leave the card with the cashier to pass to that person.
I have always thought paying for a soldiers meal is one of the neatest ways to show thanks, but I have never personally done it. I would like to change that. I am going to make an honest effort to do that the very next opportunity.
Of course, it doesn't have to be an expensive act of kindness. You could drop a nice card to someone you know is lonely or sad - anonymously gives them something to think about...especially if you pick a person and just start sending cards on a regular basis. There are a lot of people in this world who are alone. I am going to try to make it a point to watch for that one special person that I feel I need to do this for. They will be my secret penpal - it will just be one sided. :-)
I googled "paying it forward ideas" and there are many many different ways to brighten someone elses life and get the focus off of yourself.

How about you? do you do random acts of kindness you would like to share? Maybe you sponser a child in a foreign country or volunteer at a shelter. Maybe you just donated a closet full of clothes to a homeless shelter. Or bought a cup of coffee for a stranger. Please share your ideas and comments if you like.

Have a GREAT day - ♥♥♥

  1. I like this post. I have donated clothes allot of times. One time I bought a bunch of pretty cards and I just put them in mailboxes in my neighborhood.

  2. Great post... I do little things like this all the time. One day I left quarters at the car wash with a note saying Have a great day!
I didn't tell you this but Thursday night we went to eat and the table beside us was loud, rude, complained about everything. They were yelling about what sh*** service the place was and honestly the guy never did anything to deserve any of it. They even called the manager over and got him in trouble for not bringing ranch they asked for less than 2 minutes before. When they left they left him a nasty note on a napkin (laughing the whole time) and no tip. When we left we our waitress a tip and walked up to the other tables waiter and handed him a $5 with "God bless you" written on it. He looked at us confused and we just said "nothing you would have done for that table would have been right... you don't deserve that" and walked off. Even though $5 isn't much you can tell it brightened his day after having such rude people. Hopefully he remembers it and does something nice for someone else in the future.

  3. Robin -that just brought tears to my eyes! what a great thing you guys did! I will definately look out for opportunities like that. Even Quarters at a carwash is such a nice idea. Actually I had that happen to me one time and I just thought someone left them there by mistake - never even thinking about it being done on purpose. wow!
Flashdance30 - that is also a very sweet gesture. Leaving cards in various mailboxes would be a nice thought. I LOVE checking mail - always have - lol I would love to find an anonymous card like that! thanks for your responses!
